Sam Fischer took first in the weight throw, moving into national contention.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s track & field team took third out of five teams at the Macalester Kilt Classic on Friday night. The Gusties tallied 96 points, while Hamline took first with 159 points and Bethel took second with 101.

Here is a list of notable performers:

Sam Fischer (Sr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) – first in the weight throw (17.90 meters) and sixth in the shot put (14.33 meters)

Carston Dammann (Jr., Lake City, Minn.) – first in the one-mile (4:27.86)

Alex Wischnack (Fy., Nya, Minn.) – second in the 3000-meter (9:03.62)

Sean O’Connell (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.), Josh Curtis (Fy., Houston, Texas), Sam ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.), and Ed ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.) – second in the 4×200 relay (1:31.82)

Jack Blaney (Fy., Lake Elmo, Minn.), Nelson Finne (Fy., Elgin, Minn.), Dan Trentacoste (So., Orland Park , Ill.), and Max Bauer (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) – second in the 4×400 relay (3:40.69)

Derek Huntley (Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) – second in the pole vault (4.40 meters)

Bennet Woltjer (Sr., Kandiyohi, Minn.) – third in the pole vault (4.10 meters) and fourth in the long jump (5.95 meters)

Alex Fredrickson (Jr., Victoria, Minn.) – third in the 800-meter (2:01.16)

Finne – third in the high jump (1.82 meters) and fifth in the 400-meter (54.59)

Griffin Spier (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) – third in the triple jump (11.92 meters)

Curtis – fourth in the 60-meter (7.30)

Ed ReMine – sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.63)

“Sam Fischer was great tonight and added about another foot-and-a-half to his weight throw, which moves him into national contention,” Head Coach Dale Bahr said. “I’m excited to see him performing this well at this time of the year.”

The Gusties wrap up the indoor season next week at the MIAC Championships, held March 4-5 in Northfield, Minn.
