Sarah Swanson set a career personal record in the weight throw.


ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s track & field team took second out of six teams at the Macalester Kilt Classic on Friday night. The Gusties tallied 119 points, while Bethel took first place with 128.5 points.

Here is a list of notable performers from the meet:

Lydia Hayes (So., Decorah, Iowa) – first in the 1000 meter (3:01.47)

Marit Sonnesyn (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) – first in the 3000-meter (10:25.37)

Mallory Butchko (Fy., Elko, Minn.) – first on the pole vault (3.28 meters)

Sarah Swanson (Sr., Fairbanks, Alaska) – first in the shot put (13.74 meters) and first in the weight throw (15.18 meters)

Hayley Solheim (Sr., Crookston, Minn.) – second in the shot put (11.80 meters)

Jalia Anderson (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) – second in the pole vault (3.13 meters)

Sadie Novak-Klug (So., Waseca, Minn.) – second in the one-mile (5:28.16)

Lauren Shurson (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) – second in the 3000-meter (10:44.08)

Mata Agre (Sr., Corcoran, Minn.) – third in the 3000-meter (10:53.37)

Kara Helgeson (Sr., Ortonville, Minn.) – third in the shot put (11.71 meters)

Bailey Van Den Heuvel (Fy., Mondovi, Wis.) – fourth in the shot put (10.50 meters)

Maddison Ackiss (Jr., Fairbanks, Alaska) – fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.88)

Abigail Schnabel (Fy., Hamburg, Minn.) – fifth in the 600-meter (1:43.02)

“It was very cool to see the women go 1-2-3-4 in the shot put,” Head Coach Dale Bahr said. “That shows a lot of senior leadership and poise. Sarah Swanson had a career personal record in the weight throw and a season personal record in the shot put. She moved up from 18th on the national list into the top 10.”

The Gusties wrap up the indoor season next week at the MIAC Championships, held March 4-5 in Northfield, Minn.
