Men’s And Women’s Swimming & Diving Take On St. Thomas Friday In St. Paul Posted on January 28th, 2016 by

ST. PETER, Minn. –  The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s and women’s swim and dive teams will travel to St. Paul, Minn. on Friday to compete in their final duel meet of the season against the University of St. Thomas.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are coming off second place finishes at the Grinnell Invitational this past weekend in Grinnell, Iowa. Top performers on the women’s side include Kate Reilly (So., Hastings, Minn.), Linnea Rizzo (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) and Hayley Booher (Jr., Warren, Vt.). Reilly notched four individual wins in the 100 individual medley (1:00.75), 100 freestyle (53.48), 50 freestyle (24.81), and 100 butterfly (59.91). First-year Rizzo also took a home gold this weekend in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:44.42 and added a silver in the 500 freestyle in 5:13.67, while Booher came out with a win in the 200 individual medley (2:14.63).

Leading the men’s team were first-year Tanner Sonnek (North Mankato, Minn.) and sophomore Seth Berry (Bloomington, Minn.). Sonnek continued to impress as he took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.51), third in the 100 breaststroke (59.90) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:01.69). Berry also had a good showing, earning a third place finish in the 50 freestyle with a 22.29 and was part of three relays that finished in the top four. The 800 freestyle relay team of Will Bragg (So., Eagan, Minn.), Andrew Peters (Fy., Montevideo, Minn.), Jeffrey Nelson (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Berry took second with a time of 7:29.63, while the 200 free relay team of Berry, Frankie Zobitz (Fy., White Bear Lake, Minn.), Nelson and Adam Peters (Jr., Montevideo, Minn.) took fourth with a time of 1:30.18. The 200 medley relay team of Nelson, Sonnek, Ben Miller (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) and Berry took third in 1:39.48.

The Gustie divers Jonathan Bovee (Fy., Farmington, Minn.) and Carson Scholberg (Fy., Apple Valley, Minn.) also played an important role in this weekends top-three finish. Bovee took third in the one-meter diving with a score of 388.90, while Scholberg took fourth with a 370.20. Both divers placed within the top four in the three-meter diving, with Scholberg and Bovee taking third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 338.25 and 327.10.

Friday’s duel meet will start at 6 p.m. at the Aquatic Center in the Anderson Athletics and Recreation Center.
