St. Paul, Minn. – Gustavus golfer Chris Captain (So., Rochester, Minn./Century) burst onto the MIAC scene in 2014 by capturing individual medalist honors at the conference championship meet as a freshman. In his 2015 debut, Captain added another highlight to his young career as the sophomore star earned medalist honors with a 4-under-par performance at the Augsburg Invite. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Captain Wednesday with the first MIAC Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week award of the 2015 season.

Captain was brilliant in each of his first two rounds of the season, which were played at Majestic Oaks in Ham Lake, Minn. He carded a 2-under-par 70 in each round for a 36-hole total of 140 (4-under-par). Captain won medalist honors at the meet by two shots in his sophomore debut after earning MIAC Rookie-of-the-Year and All-Conference honors a year ago. Gustavus finished sixth as a team with a  score of 592 (plus-16).

The Gusties and their standout sophomore will be back in action this weekend with a trip across the border into Wisconsin. Gustavus will head to Eau Claire, Wis., to compete in the Eau Claire Invite on Sunday and Monday. The Gusties will again be n the road on Sept. 19-20 at the Saint John’s Invite before hosting the Twin Cities Classic Sept. 26-28.
