Platteville, Wis. – The Gustavus volleyball team rebounded from two losses Friday by beating Ripon College 3-1 and Westminster College 3-0 Saturday at the UW-Platteville Tournament.

After falling short in the first day of the tournament, Gustavus Head Coach Rachelle Sherdan is pleased with how her team responded Saturday.

“The first day I think our team fought very hard against Cornell winning first set and losing the next three sets by only two points,” Sherden said. “We played back to back and our second match we ran out of gas. We made way too many service errors on day one that cost us. We left the gym at about 11 p.m. and then played in the morning today again back to back. Our team bounced back well and played more controlled and aggressive and passed very well.”

Gustavus 3, Ripon 1

Three Gusties posted double digit kills – Alyssa Taylor (Sr., Trimont, Minn.) went 15-for-29 with two errors for a .448 attack percentage. Taylor Trautman (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) went 11-for-20 with five errors for a .300 mark, while Lauren Hanson (Fy., Redwood Falls, Minn.) went 10-for-20 with two errors for an attack percentage of .400.

As a team, the Gusties compiled a .333 attack percentage.

Setter Nora Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) posted 42 assists and Brittany Luethmers (Fy., Prior Lake, Minn.) led the defense with 13 digs.

“We have a lot to work on for this week and we look forward to getting back into the gym and continuing to progress our game as we go into this weekend at Johnson & Wales in Providence,” Sherden said.
