Holtan Earns Third Consecutive AVCA First-Team All-America Honor

For the third consecutive year, Gustavus volleyball setter Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) has been named AVCA First-Team All-America. Holtan becomes the first player in Gustavus program history and 31st in the nation to earn three First-Team All-America honors.

Holtan, Sherden Highlight AVCA Central Region Awards

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Division III Regional Awards on Thursday and Gustavus volleyball is well represented with the top two honors in the Central Region. Rachelle Sherden is the Central Region Coach of the Year and Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) is the Central Region Player of the Year. Kate Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) and Brittany Luethmers (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) join Nora on the All-Region Team.

Volleyball Comes Back to Beat Augsburg in Five Sets, Advances to MIAC Title Match

It was a defensive battle to the end with long rallies throughout, and at the end of the day the Gustavus volleyball team was able to outlast Augsburg in five sets to advance to the MIAC championship match. The No. 8 Gusties trailed 2-1 after three sets (25-19, 23-25, 20-25), but were able to win the fourth 25-20 and the fifth in convincing fashion 15-6.

Volleyball Earns Multiple Honors in MIAC Postseason Awards

The Gustavus volleyball team received a number of honors Wednesday as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its volleyball awards. Rachelle Sherden was named MIAC Coach of the Year for the second time in four years, Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) earned Player of the Year for the third straight season, and Brittany Luethmers (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) garnered her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year honor.

Volleyball Completes Perfect Season in the MIAC

The No. 9 Gustavus volleyball team wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a four-set win at Saint Mary’s. The Gusties won by set scores of 25-12, 25-19, 17-25, and 25-18 to improve to 25-2 overall and finish the conference season with a perfect 11-0 record.

Volleyball Hands Saint Ben’s First MIAC Loss

In a battle of undefeated teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the No. 10 Gustavus volleyball team bounced back after a first set loss to beat Saint Benedict in four, 20-25, 25-7, 25-17, 25-23, extending its winning streak to 15 while improving to 23-2 overall and 9-0 in the league.

No. 10 Volleyball Tops Concordia, Holtan Breaks Career Assists Record

History was made Friday night at Gus Young Court. With her third assist of the match, Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) broke a 22-year old record for most career assists in Gustavus volleyball history, surpassing Jess Lobben’s (1993-96) mark of 4,201. The No. 10-ranked Gusties went on to defeat Concordia in four sets 27-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-14 for their 14th consecutive win, improving to 22-2 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC.

Volleyball Hosts Two Conference Contests this Weekend

The No. 10 Gustavus volleyball team is set to host its final two regular season home contests this weekend. The Gusties enter the matches with a 21-2 record overall and a 7-0 mark in the MIAC. They take on Concordia (8-14, 4-3 MIAC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and St. Benedict (20-5, 7-0 MIAC) on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Volleyball Wins Pair of 3-0 Matches at St. Kate’s Tourney

The No. 11 Gustavus volleyball team looked every part of its national ranking Saturday, claiming two convincing straight-set victories at the St. Kate’s tournament. The Gusties defeated UC-Santa Cruz 25-9, 25-13, 25-16 and followed by beating Luther 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 to extend their winning streak to 13 matches. The Gusties are now 21-2 overall.

Volleyball Wins 11th Straight, Tops St. Thomas in Four Sets

The No. 11 Gustavus volleyball team extended its winning streak to 11 with a four-set victory at St. Thomas on Wednesday night. The Gusties won 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22 to improve to 19-2 overall and 7-0 in the MIAC. St. Thomas falls to 16-7 overall and 5-2 in the league.
