Milan, Ill. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is in fifth place with a 335 (+47) after the opening round of the Augustana College Invitational being held Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 at the Pinnacle Country Club.
Indian Hills Community College leads the 20-team field with a 313 (+25), host Illinois Wesleyan sits in second with a 316 (+28), and Rend Lake Community College is in third with a 325 (+37).
Leading the way for Gustavus is Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.) who shot a ten-over 82 (42-40) to finish day one in 17th overall. Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) are next in line in 33rd with 84s (+12). Spier went 41-43, and Rastetter went 42-42.
Rounding out Gustavus’s lineup is Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.) in 44th with an 85 (40-45, +13), and Alec Aunan (Fr., Rock Island, Ill.) in 78th with an 89 (44-45, +17).
The Indian Hills duo of Jakob Garstecki and Trevor Ullestad share the lead after carding 76s (+4) this afternoon. Tony Albano and Spencer Groessel of Illinois Wesleyan rank third with 78s (+6).
