Senior defender Elliot Emerson and the rest of the Golden Gusties will face St. Thomas in a critical MIAC matchup on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the Gustie Soccer Field.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 11 in a critical MIAC match against the Tommies of the University of St. Thomas.  In what is the marquee match in the MIAC on Saturday afternoon, Gustavus and St. Thomas enter the weekend locked in second place in the league standings with 10 points and identical conference records of 3-1-1.  Gustavus is 9-3-1 overall after playing St. Olaf to a 1-1 tie last Saturday in Northfield, while St. Thomas is 8-4-1 overall after battling Concordia to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday in Moorhead.

“The matchup against St. Thomas is always one that is keenly looked forward to right from the start of the MIAC season,” said Head Coach Mike Middleton.  “They have a lot of highly rated players  and a number of those who we have tried to recruit here.  It has always been a close match and I don’t think this game will be any different this time around.”

“Its nice to have the game at home, especially since St. Thomas plays its home matches on turf field,” added Middleton about Saturday’s match.  “So, playing on the grass is a nice advantage for our lads. Hopefully we’ll get a bit of light drizzle, which will help us to fizz the ball around on the surface. And, hopefully, its not too chilly because we’d like a big crowd to push us on!”
