Last Time Out
Gustavus: The Gusties could not keep the momentum they garnered from their victory over Crown College when they took on the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday. Gustavus fell 3-0 to the MIAC-leading Blazers. Saint Benedict outshot Gustavus 9-1 in the opening 30 minutes and the Blazer’s 10th shot by Taylor Hedin from Gracie Vaughan went past Gustie goalkeeper Caroline Olson (Sr., York, Penn.) to put the Blazers up 1-0 at the 30:18 mark. 30 minutes later, the Blazers scored two goals within 21 seconds of each other to seal the victory for Saint Benedict.

Saint Mary’s: The Cardinals are coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to the University of St. Thomas this past Saturday in St. Paul. The Tommies’ smothering defense limited Saint Mary’s to just two shots on goal, and Tommie forward Morgan McConachie was a one-woman offensive wrecking crew, contributing on each of the Tommie goals in the match (two goals, two assists). The Tommies were also able to keep Cardinal forward Emily Loof quiet. Loof ranks second in the MIAC in goals scored with 8, just one shy of Augsburg’s Marie Fitzgerald who has 9.

Series History:
Wednesday’s match marks the 38th meeting between Gustavus and Saint Mary’s in women’s soccer. The Cardinals hold the advantage in the all-time series with a record of 19-15-3. When the two teams met in 2013 however, it was the Gusties that came away with the 3-1 victory in St. Peter on October 2. Maddison Ackiss (So., Fairbanks, Alaska) scored less than two minutes into the game on a cross from Heather Goff (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) and Monica Pelkey (So., Oak Grove, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal to help secure the victory for Gustavus.
