Mitch Hendricks And Marit Sonnesyn Named September Student-Athletes Of The Month Posted on October 1st, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – Junior quarterback Mitch Hendricks (Sr., Laporte, Minn.) and junior cross country runner Marit Sonnesyn (Plymouth, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College September Male and Female Student-Athletes-of-the-Month, as selected by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

Mitch Hendricks led a red-hot offense as the Gustavus football team begin its 2014 campaign 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC – the program’s best start since 1998…Earned MIAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors in three of the first four weeks…Currently first in NCAA Division III in completion percentage (78.8%), passing touchdowns (20), passing yards (1,584), and points responsible for per game (31.5), second in passing efficiency (209.3) and passing yards per game (396), and fourth in completions per game (29.8)…Shattered Gustavus’ single-game records for passing yards (504 vs. Augsburg) and passing touchdowns (7 vs. Augsburg) and boasts the nation’s best touchdown-to-interception ratio at 20-to-1.

Marit Sonnesyn the Gustavus women’s cross country team at both of its events held during the month of September… After beginning the season with a gold medal performance at the Gustie Invitational on Aug. 30, Sonnesyn led the team and finished fourth overall with a time of 23:40.9 at the Central Dutch Invitational held Sept. 6 in Pella, Iowa…Sonnesyn capped the month with a 21st place finish in 23:42.6 against a strong field at the St. Olaf Invitational held on Sept. 20 in Northfield…The Gusties finished third at the Dutch Invite and sixth at the St. Olaf Invite.
