Softball To Pay Tribute To 2009 Team At Annual Alumni Game This Weekend Posted on September 30th, 2014 by

The 2009 Gustavus softball team with its third place trophy at the site of the College World Series.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus softball team will host its annual Alumni Game on Saturday, October 4 at 9:30 a.m. on the Gustie Softball Field. This year’s Gustie Alumni Softball Game will serve as a five-year anniversary tribute to the 2009 Gustavus softball team that won both MIAC Championship and Midwest Regional Championship, and later went on to finishe third at the NCAA Division III College World Series.

Head Coach Jeff Annis and the current Gusties welcome former players, coaches, and friends of the program to campus for a day of reminiscing, food, fun, and some friendly competition. A potluck served by the team will take place following the game at 12:00 p.m.  All in attendance are then encouraged to attend the Homecoming football game between Gustavus and Carleton set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

Considered to be the best Gustavus softball team ever assembled, the 2009 Gusties finished the season a program-best 42-9 overall and 21-1 in the MIAC. The team set new single-season hitting standards in runs (349), hits (451), doubles (92), home runs (47), RBI (303), and stolen bases (85), and pitching marks in strikeouts (321), innings (319.0), complete games (35), and shutouts (15).

Four players were named to the All-Conference Team including Rachael Click ’09, Emily Klein ’09, Lisa Klass ’12, and Erin Truebenbach ’11. Rachel Click was later named to the All-Midwest Region First Team and earned a spot on the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-America Team – becoming the second player in program history to achieve such an honor.
