Dellwood, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team struggled to find its groove on the final day of the 2014 Twin Cities Classic held Monday at the Dellwood Country Club. After dropping three spots into a fifth place standing after day two, the Gusties finished the tournament with a 315 to end up in eight place with a three-day team score of 917 (+53).

“Challenging golf course today. Some teams and individuals stepped up to the plate and played some solid golf,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “We have things we need to work on this week to prepare for the MIAC Championships this weekend. Although we need to find five players who will be ready for the biggest stage of the fall, I’m excited to see who steps up to the challenge.”

The University of St. Thomas jumped ahead of Illinois Wesleyan University on the final day to take the Twin Cities Classic title with an 888 (+24) after posting a 295 this afternoon. Illinois Wesleyan finished second with an 889 (+25), and UW-Eau Claire catapulted itself six places into third with a team-total 904 (+40) after shooting a 296 in Dellwood.

Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.) was the only other Gustie to crack the top 50, totaling a 232 (+16) after an 81 (+9) on Monday.
