St. Peter, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus to-be senior Chris Kelly (Savage, Minn.) has signed an amateur contract to play baseball for the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League.
Kelly, a right-handed pitcher, was added to the Huskie bullpen in late-July as the team makes its final push for a spot in the Northwoods League Divisional Playoffs, which are set to begin on Monday, Aug. 11. At 14-13 with four straight wins under its belt in the second half of the season, Duluth sits in fourth place in the North Division. Overall this summer, the Huskies have compiled a record of 23-40 for a seventh place standing.
Chris Kelly has made three pitching appearances (one start) since joining the club. He is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.12 after logging a total of seven innings. The Savage, Minnesota product’s victory came in a five-inning effort against Eau Claire on July 29. In Duluth’s 5-1 win over Eau Claire in that contest, Kelly allowed just one run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The Duluth Huskies will cap the season with series against Alexandria (Aug. 2-3), Eau Claire (Aug. 4,6), Wisconsin (Aug. 7-8), and St. Cloud (Aug. 9-10).
In three seasons at Gustavus, Kelly has made 25 pitching appearances and holds an overall record of 5-10 with a 3.90 ERA. He carries an opponent batting average of .259 and has recorded 91 strikeouts.
