Le Sueur, Minn. – Despite the heat wave sweeping across Minnesota, the Gustavus men’s golf team was on the links this morning for its third qualifying round of training camp.
“You don’t think that heat plays much of a factor in golf, but it’s a long walk out there,” joked head coach Scott Moe following this morning’s round. “They’re walking between four and five miles carrying a golf bag, so its been challenging.”
The Gustavus men’s golf team reported to campus on Saturday, Aug. 24. The Gusties will have a week-long training camp before opening their 2013 fall campaign on Sunday, Sept. 1 with a dual meet against conference foe St. Thomas. The two squads will square off at the Golden Valley Country Club late in the afternoon.
“We just finished our third day of qualifying, we’ve got a practice day tomorrow, and then we close out the week with two more qualifying days,” said Moe about the rest of the week’s training schedule. “For the first time in a while we are going to start the year with a dual meet on Sunday. Normally we don’t play before the first weekend of school but we are going to try to get them a little action early to see where we stack up heading into the first league meet.”
Scott Moe’s squad is currently made up of two freshman, four sophomores, one junior, and six seniors.
