Men’s And Women’s Track & Field Takes Part In Wartburg Select

Waverly, Iowa – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s and women’s track and field teams kicked off their outdoor seasons by taking part in the Wartburg Outdoor Select on Saturday.  The Gustie men recorded 46.20 points to finish in seventh place, while the women scored 35 points to also take seventh.

On the men’s side, Blair Riegel (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.), Jeffrey Dubose (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.), and Matt Flotterud (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) led the Three Crowns on the track.  Riegel finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.88) and ninth in the 100-meter dash (11.66).  Dubose placed ninth in the 200-meter dash (23.52) and also finished runner-up off the track in the pole vault (4.05m).  Flotterud came in fith in the 110-meter hurdles (16.58) and third in the high jump (1.88m).

Ryan Ness (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) turned in Gustavus’s top performance in the field events by winning the javelin competition with a toss of 57.33-meters.  Brody Ziegler (Fr., Mankato, Minn.) cleared 1.88-meters to place third in the high jump alongside Flotterud.

Ryan Obele (Jr., Le Sueur, Minn.) was the squad’s top thrower of the afternoon.  Obele placed fourth in both the discus (43.40m) and hammer throw (46.12m).  Pat Tracy (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) finished seventh in the hammer throw (43.41) and ninth in the shot put (12.83m).  Ed Kluender (Jr., Madison, Wis.) took ninth in the javelin (42.73m), and Sam Fischer (Fr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) placed 10th in the shot put to round out Gustavus’s top performers in the field events.

Posting the Black and Gold’s top finish on the women’s side was Ally Voss (Sr., Wausau, Wis.) who won the pole vault after clearing 3.65-meters.

Nevada Wendlandt (Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) finished fourth in the pole vault (3.25m) and fifth in the high jump (1.50m).  Also in the jumps, Leah Brossoit (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) took sixth in the long jump (4.91m) and seventh in the triple jump (9.91m).  Shelbie Walsh (Fy., Litchfield, Minn.) went over the bar at 2.80-meters to finish ninth in the pole vault.

Rachel Colter (So., North St. Paul, Minn.) rounded out the group of field competitors with a third place toss in the javelin (31.56m) and a seventh place showing in the shot put (11.96m).

Leading the Gustie women on the track was Beth Hauer (Sr., Little Falls, Minn.) who crossed the finish line in 18:04.27 to finish third.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back on the track next Saturday, April 13 when it hosts the Lee Krough Invitational at the Gustavus Track and Field Complex.
