Men’s Indoor Track & Field Places Second At Saint John’s Quadrangular

Collegeville, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s indoor track and field team registered 140.5 points to finish second at the Saint John’s Quadrangular held Saturday afternoon at the Donald McNeely Spectrum.  Saint John’s won the meet with 177 points, while Concordia placed third with 132.5 points, and UW-Stout finished fourth with 98.7 points.

Gustavus junior Blair Riegel (Lakeville, Minn.) stayed busy all afternoon, winning two events on the track and two more on the field to lead the way for the Black and Gold.  Riegel was the first of three Gusties in the 60-meter dash, winning the race with a time of 7.12.  Also in the 60-meter, Kendrick Hall (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) finished second in 7.18 and Phillip Butler (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) placed third in 7.25.

Riegel also won the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.92.  In the jumps, the Lakeville, Minn. product won the long jump with a leap of 21-feet 10-inches and the triple jump with a mark of 43-feet 4.25-inches.

Also recording a win on the track was Joseph Renier (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) who ran a 15:49.52 to take the 5,000-meter run.

Kendrick Hall added a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.23, and Leighton Becher (So., Woodbury, Minn.) ran runner-up in the 5,000-meter run in 15:50.46.  Tom Brenberg (Jr., Wyoming, Minn.) rounded out Gustavus’s top runners on the track with a third place finish in the mile with a time of 4:39.79.

Ryan Obele (Jr., Le Sueur, Minn.) led the Gusties in the throws with a win in the weight throw with a toss of 51-feet 6.5-inches.

Josh Owens (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Cameron Clause (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) rounded out the squad’s top performers with a back-to-back finish on the top of the podium in the pole vault.  Owens won the pole vault after clearing 15-feet 2.25 inches, and Clause took second with a mark of 14-feet 8.25-inches.

The Gustavus indoor track and field team will be in action next at the Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet held in St. Paul on Friday, Feb. 22.
