Lindsey Hjelm Garners MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete Of The Week Honors Posted on January 28th, 2013 by

St. Paul, Minn. – Gustavus women’s hockey forward Lindsey Hjelm (Sr., North Oaks, Minn.) has been recognized as the MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week after a five-point weekend (3G, 2A) in a two-game sweep of Concordia.  With Monday’s announcement, Hjelm earns Athlete-of-the-Week honors for the first time of her career and is the second Gustie women’s hockey player to garner the award this season.

The senior started her five-point weekend with an assist in Friday night’s 5-1 win over the Cobbers.  Hjelm then put forward another assist to go along with her first career hat trick to factor in all four Gustavus goals on Saturday afternoon in a 4-1 victory.  The back-to-back wins over Concordia marked the second consecutive weekend that the Gusties have swept the MIAC’s second place team, which pushed Gustavus’ record to 16-0-0 (10-0-0 MIAC) on the season.

So far this season, Hjelm has recorded 11 points on three goals and eight assists.  Her 11 points and eight assists lead all MIAC defenders while her three goals tie for second among the same category.

The Gusties will take back to the ice Friday night when they host Hamline at Don Roberts Ice Rink.  That game is set for a 7:00 p.m. opening face-off.
