Men’s Track And Field Team Head To St. Olaf Invite To Start Indoor Season Posted on January 25th, 2013 by

Name_Sheild_sportTRAJAN_2cThe Gustavus Adolphus men’s indoor track and field is set to open the 2013 season with a meet at the St. Olaf Tostrud Center Fieldhouse this Friday. The men will compete against UW-River Falls and conference opponent St. Olaf. With a fourth place finish at the 2012 MIAC Indoor Championships, the team will look to a solid group of veterans to lead the way in 2013.

One the track, mid-distance runner Eric Jorgenson (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and sprinter Blair Riegel (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) will likely pace the Gusies. Jorgenson was an all-conference performer in the 600-meter dash with a second place finish (1:21.19). He also placed fourth in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:55.21. Riegel placed first in the 200-meter dash (22.39) and third in the 60-meter dash (6.99). Both finishes earned him all-conference honors.

In the field events, Riegel, as well as Josh Owens (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.), return as the team’s top competitors. Riegel took all-conference marks for his second place finishes in both the triple and long jump with leaps of 45-8 and 22-6.5, respectively. Owens also earned all-MIAC with his first place vault of 16-0.7. He is currently the holder of the indoor pole vault school record with a mark of 16-4.75.

Cameron Clause (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) also returns as the squad’s top multis competetitor. Clause placed third in the heptathlon last season scoring 4564 points and also placed tenth in the pole vault with a height of 13-11.25. Other top returners include thrower Ryan Obele (Jr., Le Sueur, Minn.), pole vaulter Jeffery Dubose (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) and mid-distance runner Tanner Davenport (Jr., Ham Lake, Minn.).
