Gymnastics Places Third At Gustie Triangular

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus gymnastics team opened up their 2013 campaign with a third place finish (173.575) at the Gustie Triangular held Saturday afternoon in the Lund Center Gymnastics Studio.  UW-Whitewater won the meet with a score of 184.200, while UW-Stout rounded out the competition with score of 180.900.

The Gusties posted individual event scores of 45.525 on the vault, 39.900 on the uneven parallel bars, 43.650 on the balance beam, and a 44.500 in the floor exercise.

Jamie Ries (Jr., Monticello, Minn.) and Bailey Zeinert (Sr., Oshkosh, Wis.) were Gustavus’ all-around competitors in the meet.  Ries placed fifth with a score of 35.100 and Zeinert took sixth with a score of 33.725.  Britany DeZiel of UW-Stout won the all-around competition with a score of 37.150.

Samantha Opsahl (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) turned in Gustavus’ top finish of the afternoon by scoring a 9.175 on the balance beam to place fourth.  Opsahl also finished ninth on both the vault with a score of 9.125 and the floor with a score of 9.150.

Kacy Lorber (Jr., Ashland, Wis.) performed a 9.225 routine to finish seventh on the vault, while Paige Dieleman (Jr., Washington, Iowa) performed a 9.125 to also finish inside the top ten in the event with a ninth place mark.  Amanda Christensen (Sr., Albany, Minn.) rounded out Gustavus’ top performers with a 10th place finish on the beam (8.850).

Individual event champions included Mesha Peterson of UW-Stout on the vault (9.500), Annie Mix of UW-Whitewater on the bars (9.500), Megan Love of UW-Whitewater on the beam (9.400), and Allyse Dieringer on the floor (9.600).

The Gustavus gymnastics team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when it travels to St. Paul to compete in the Hamline University Triangular.  The meet begins at 6:30 p.m. and will feature Gustavus, Hamline, and Winona State.
