Gustavus women’s hockey senior Mollie Carroll (Eagan, Minn.) has been named MIAC Women’s Hockey Athlete of the Week for the leading the Gustie offense in a 4-2 victory over Concordia in the league’s playoff title game Saturday in St. Peter, Minn. Carroll bookends the conference’s Athlete of the Week honor as she garnered the award after the first week of the season.
In the MIAC Playoff title game, Concordia jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first period and that lead stood well into the second period until the Gusties went into the power play. Carroll banked in a rebound at the 15:01 mark ensuing a Courtney Boucher shot for the equalizer. The Eagan, Minn. native capped a four unanswered goals surge with her 15th goal of the season at the 6:50 point in the third.
Carroll is putting the finishing touches on her impressive four-year career at Gustavus, leading the MIAC in assists (22), ranking second in points (37) and sixth in goals (15) – all career highs. She was also named All-Conference for the first time in her career.
The senior captain and the rest of the Gustie women return to the ice at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for a first round match-up in the NCAA Tournament. The puck is set to drop at 2:00 p.m.
