Men’s And Women’s Swimming & Diving Conclude Day Three At NCAA Championships Posted on March 26th, 2011 by

Select members Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams continued to swim on in day three of competition at the 2011 NCAA Championships held at the Alan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.  Carley Mosher and the women’s 800 freestyle relay team turned in Gustavus’ top performances of day, as the women’s squad sits in 18th place with 45 points and the men are in 22nd with 22 points.

Mosher bested her qualifying time of 58.05 in the 100 backstroke to take 20th in the race with a time of 57.43.  She ranked 29th in the event entering the NCAA Championships.

The women’s 800 free relay team of Mosher, Sarah Hund, Alissa Tinklenberg, and Dajana Vidovic touched the wall in 7:43.32 to take 16th.

On the men’s side, Paul Kirihara and Billy Schultze led the team in their respective individual races.  Kirihara swam a 51.28 in the 100 backstroke to place 22nd, while Schultze took 26th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.95.  Kirihara ranked 16th (50.94) in the race entering the meet, as Schultze ranked 28th (1:53.83).

Both Kirihara and Schultze joined Whitaker Davis and Sam DeFranco in the 800 free relay to close the day, finishing 24th in the event with a time of 7:03.29.  The group qualified for the NCAA Championships in 23rd with a mark of 6:56.72.

The 2011 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will conclude on Saturday, March 26th with preliminary races beginning at 10:00 a.m. and finals starting at 6:00 p.m.
