Junior Pitcher Betsie Collins (Waseca, Minn.) was named Pitcher of the Week, while senior outfielder Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) was named co-Player of the Week for the second consecutive week by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Monday. Collins tossed two shutouts, while Klein hit .583, and drove in 11 runs with three home runs, two triples and a double to help the Gusties sweep doubleheaders with Carleton and Augsburg last week. Gustavus is currently 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.

Collins posted a record of 2-0 during the week as she registered a 2-hit, 8-0 shutout (5 inn.) win at Carleton on Thursday, and a 2-hit, 11-0 shutout (5 inn.) win against Augsburg on Saturday. Against Carleton, Collins allowed two hits, while striking out five in five innings of work. Against Augsburg, Collins again allowed only two hits, while striking out eight and walking two. For the season, Collins is 5-2 overall with a 1.40 ERA. She has struck out 46, while walking six. She has limited her opponents to a .260 batting average.

Klein, who shared Player of the Week honors with Alison Wright of St. Thomas for the second consecutive week, went 7-for-12 (with six extra base hits) to help the Gusties post a mark of 4-0 with wins over Carleton (8-0, 9-0) and Augsburg (11-0, 13-3). Klein posted a .583 batting average, a 1.75 slugging percentage, and a .615 on-base percentage in the four games and she extended her hitting streak to 18 games, which includes every game the team has played this season. Against Carleton, Klein stroked a home run in the first game and a triple in the second game and drove in three runs. Against Augsburg, she was 5-for-6, with a double, a triple, and two home runs. She set a school record for runs batted in, in the second game as she drove in seven runs with a solo home run, a three-run home run, and a bases loaded triple. Through 18 games, Klein is hitting .500 (30-for-60), with a .950 slugging percentage, and a .538 on-base percentage.
