Men’s Indoor Track and Field Has Strong Showing At Pre-MIAC Meet Posted on February 27th, 2009 by

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team turned in a solid performance at the Pre-MIAC Meet hosted by Macalester College on Friday in St. Paul. No team scores were kept at the six-team meet, which included Bethel, Carleton, Concordia, Hamline, Gustavus, and host Macalester. The competition was the final meet before the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Concordia College next weekend in Moorhead, Minn.

Gustie runners swept the podium stand in the 3,000 meters as John Kennedy (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) finished first (9:01.81), Dan Foley (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) finished second (9:02.93), and John Leaf (Sr., Center City, Minn.) finished third (9:04.09). Tyler Geyen (Sr., Watertown, Minn.) nearly matched the school record he set last week in the 55-meter hurdles with a winning time of 7.64. Matt Dvorak (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) took first place in the 55-meter dash at 6.63, while Colby Citrowske (So., Canby, Minn.) was third at 6.71. Additional top three finishers included Cole Carlson (Jr., Mora, Minn.), who was second in the 400 meters (50.69), Carson Smith (So., Prior Lake, Minn.), who was second in the 800 meters (2:02.19), and Justin Lund (So., Cyrus, Minn.), who was third in the 800 meters (2:02.67).

In the field events, Brian Anderson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn.) came away with a pair of runner-up finishes in the weight throw at 50′ 1.25″ and the shot put at 48′ 8″. Chris Golv (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) took third place in the high jump with a leap of 6′ 0.75″. Other third-place finishers included Carl Stenoien (Fy., Underwood, Minn.) in the triple jump (42″ 6.75″) and Colin Rust (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn.) in the long jump (19′ 9.5″).

In the relay events, Gustavus took first in the 4×200 (1:31.33) and the distance medley (11:53.99) and second in the 4×400 (3:24.14).
