The Gustavus men’s soccer team battled non-conference opponent Simpson College to a 0-0 tie through two overtimes on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties outshot the Storm 21-1, but could not get the ball past Simpson goalkeeper Josh Youngman who made nine saves. Gustavus has now been held off the scoreboard for two consecutive games for the first time in 55 matches. The last time the Gusties were shut out in back-to-back matches was Oct. 8 and Oct 12 of 2005 (0-1 loss to Macalester and a 0-0 tie with St. Thomas).

The Gusties held an 8-1 shot advantage in the first half and a 13-0 advantage through the second half and both overtimes. Mark Adams led Gustavus with six shots on goal, while Brett VanderStreek put four shots on goal.

Luke Strom played all 110 minutes in goal for Gustavus. He did not have to make a save. Josh Youngman also played all 110 minutes for Simpson. He registered nine saves.

Gustavus, which is now 6-2-1 overall, will play its next game at Hamline next Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 pm.
