The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Learfield Sports have announced the final totals for the 2010-11 Directors’ Cup and Gustavus Adolphus College finished 21st out of 435 competing NCAA Division III schools.
For the second year in a row, the Gustavus track and field program has crowned a national champion in dramatic fashion. This year, it is senior Janey Helland, who came from behind in the final event to win the NCAA Division III national title in the heptathlon, following last year's dramatic finish by Max Hanson to win the 800 meter national title.
Janey Helland finished fifth in the long jump and sits in third place in the heptathlon after the first day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships, which are being held at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Gustavus Adolphus College senior women's track and field competitors Janey Helland, Sam Broderius and Allyson Voss have been selected to participate in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Helland will compete in the long jump and heptathlon, while Broderius will compete in the discus and Voss in the pole vault.
The Gustavus women's track and field team made a strong run at its first ever MIAC Track and Field title on Saturday, but St. Thomas was just too strong down the stretch and the Tommies (143.5) edged the Gusties (132.5) by 11 points to claim their seventh consecutive MIAC outdoor title and the 27th title in the program's history.

The Gustie women's track and field team continued its indoor season with a win at Carleton's Meet of Hearts, held on Saturday, February 12, in Northfield. Gustavus posted eight first-place finishes on the day to win the meet with a total of 198 points.
Seniors Janey Helland and Megan Lundgren led the Gustavus women's indoor track and field team at the Ted Nelson Classic held at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday. Helland won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3 1/4 inches, while Lundgren won the 400 meter run in a time of 1:01.24.
