Laura Edlund finished second in the 5,000 meters and Lisa Brown placed second in the shot put to highlight a successful day for the Gustavus women’s track and field team at the Manitou Classic at St. Olaf College. The Gusties turned in top eight performances in 17 different events. No team scores were kept for the meet.

The Gusties received solid performances in the field events from Lisa Brown, Sam Broderius, and Sari Lindeman all of whom placed in multiple events. Brown placed second in the shot put (41-3 1/4) and fifth in the discus (124-0), while Broderius finished third in the discus (132-1) and seventh in the shot put (38-10 1/2) and Lindeman placed fourth in the triple jump (34-11) and seventh in the long jump (16-2 1/2). Others placing in the field events included Shanna Dawson finishing third in the pole vault (11-11 3/4) and Laura Lynch finishing sixth in the triple jump (34-6 3/4).

Laura Edlund’s second place finish in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 18:38.5 paced the Gusties in the running events. Other top performances in the running events included Aryn Bell finishing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.66), Chelsea Craven finishing third (1:00.08) and Liz Pringle fourth (1:01.1) in the 400 meters, Janey Helland finishing seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:13.44), Jill Fagerstrom finishing eighth in the 10,000 meter run (40:09.90).

The relay team’s also turned in some solid finishes as the 4×400 relay team of Chelsea Craven, Elizabeth Pringle, Megan Lundgren, and Kaelene Lundstrum placed third (4:03.01), the 4×100 relay team of Lyntrell Wilson, Dani Serbus, Sari Lindeman, and Julia Thompson finished fifth (52.53) and the 4×800 relay team of Sam Madsen, Abby Karl, Laura Edlund, and Kate Sidlo finished fourth in a time of 10:11.31.

Gustavus will host the 14-team Drake Alternative Meet next Saturday, April 26 beginning at 10:30 am.
