Men’s Swimming and Diving Finishes Fifth at NCAA Championships Posted on March 17th, 2007 by

The Gustavus men’s swimming team turned in a strong performance on the final day of the
NCAA Swimming championships and posted a fifth place team finish scoring 225 points. The
fifth place finish is the highest finish in the program’s history.

The Gusties posted four top eight finishes on the day including Matt Stewart placing 5th
in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.87 (which set a new school and MIAC record),
Skylar Davis finishing 6th in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:37.97 (which set a new
school record), the 400 free relay team of Stewart, Ben Hanson, Brian Amundson, and Scott
Hagemeyer placing third in a school and MIAC record time of 3:00.98, and Brian Amundson
finishing 8th in the 100 freestyle in a time of 45.45.

Other finishes for Gustavus on the day included Ben Hanson finishing 13th in the 1650
freestyle (15:51.69), Scott Hagemeyer finishing 11th in the 100 free (45.92), and Connor
Ziegler placing 10th in the 200 butterfly (1:52.24).

Matt Stewart, Skylar Davis, Ben Hanson, Scott Hagemeyer, and Brian Amundson all earned All-America honors by virtue of finishing in the top eight at the NCAA Championships.
