The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team will send nine competitors to the NCAA Championships which will take place this Thursday through Saturday at the University of Houston. Matt Stewart, Scott Hagemeyer, and Skylar Davis qualified automatically, while the 200 and 400 free relays also automatically qualified for the national meet.

The nine swimmers representing Gustavus includes Matt Stewart (So., Burnsville, Minn.), Scott Hagemeyer (Sr., Willmar, Minn.), Ben Hanson (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.), Skylar Davis (Fy., Palatine, Minn.), Brian Amundson (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.), Jonah Winter (Jr., Park Rapids, Minn.), Billy Cuevas (So., Woodbury, Minn.), Dan Mikkelson (Fy., West St. Paul, Minn.), and Connor Ziegler (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.).

The Gusties have 11 swimmers seeded in the top 16 in eight events. They also have four relay teams that are seeded in the top 10. Matt Stewart leads the way as he is seeded #1 in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:29.15, #2 in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.77, and #4 in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.19. In addition, Scott Hagemeyer is seeded #7 in the 50 free (20.69), #7 in the 100 backstroke (51.52), and #8 in the 100 freestyle (45.69), Brian Amundson is seeded #8 in the 50 free (20.70), and #8 in the 100 free (45.69), Skylar Davis is seeded #6 in the 1650 freestyle (15.51.29), and Connor Ziegler is seeded #9 in the 100 butterfly (50.26).

In the relays, the 400 free relay team of Stewart, Hanson, Amundson, and Hagemeyer is seeded #1 with a time of 3:02.21, while the 200 free relay team of Amundson, Winter, Stewart, and Hagemeyer is seeded #2 with a time of 1:22.34. The 200 medley relay team of Hagemeyer, Mikkelson, Ziegler, and Amundson is seeded #8 with a time of 1:33.52, and the 400 medley relay team is seeded #17 with a time of 3:28.29.
