The Gustavus men’s cross-country team participated in the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday. The Huston Invitational is a unique meet in that there are two separate races offered, one was a four kilometer race (2.48 miles) and the other was a 8 kilometer race (4.97 miles). The Gusties finished 12th (out of 12) in the 4km race and 5th (out of 10) in the 8 km race. There is also a combined team standing which adds the point totals from each race and Gustavus finished fifth with a combined score of 459.
In the 4 kilometer race, Gustavus was led by Mark Hartman (Fy., White Bear Lake, Minn.), who finished 79th overall (57th in the team scoring), with a time of 13:38. Hartman was followed by Michael Paulson (Fy., Bloomington, Minn.), who finished 98th (64th), in 13:51, John Gamble (Fy., Appleton, Wis.), who placed 128th (74th), in 14:32, Brian Uher-Koch (So., Menomomie, Wis.), who placed 132nd (75th), in 14:39, Andrew Howard (Sr., Rochester, Minn.), who placed 139th (78th), in 14:54, and Jeremy Bock (Fy., Brainerd, Minn.), who placed 150th (79th) in 15:22.
In the 8 kilometer race, the Gusties were led by Dan Foley (So., Minneapolis, Minn.), who finished 11th in a time of 27:15. Others competing for Gustavus included Chris deLaubenfels (Jr., Mount Vernon, Iowa), who placed 17th (16th), in a time of 27:21, Alex Zupan (Sr., Monona, Wis.), who finished 25th (24th), in a time of 27:53, John Kennedy (Fy., Coon Rapids, Minn.), who placed 30th (29th) in a time of 28:05, John Leaf (So., Center City, Minn.), who placed 32nd (31st), in a time of 28:08, Alex Prieve (So., Faribault, Minn.), who finished 64th (51st), in a time of 29:50, Finn Kuusisto (Sr., Shafer, Minn.), who placed 72nd (54th), in a time of 30:51, Eli Anoskzo (So., Dousman, Wis.), who placed 79th, in a time of 32:00, and Bjorn Olsen (Sr., Deerwood, Minn.), who placed 84th, in a time of 33:25.
The team will participate in the Jim Drews Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse this Saturday, October 14 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
