Women’s Golf Wins Seven-Team MWCGA Invitational in Convincing Fashion Posted on April 23rd, 2006 by

The Gustavus women’s golf team made a strong statement to the NCAA Championship selection committee with a 23-stroke win over second place St. Thomas at the Minnesota Women’s Collegiate Golf Association Invitational. The tournament was played at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minnesota. The Gusties were led by senior Kelli Groff who finished first with a 36-hole total of 76-73–149. The 18-hole total of 308 on Sunday set a new school record bettering the old mark of 311 set in last fall at the Midwest Classic.

Others scoring for the Gusties were Breanne Staples (6th) with a total of 81-76–157, Kimbra Kosak (8th) with a total of 80-78–158, Alana Reetz (18th) with a total of 81-85–166, and Rachel Roberg (19th) with a total of 87-81–168.

The Gusties will find out on Monday, May 1 whether they will be taking part in the 2006 NCAA Championships, which will take place at Mission Inn Golf Club in Howie-In-The-Hills, Florida. Gustavus has made a strong statement this spring with a first place finish at the Wartburg Invitational (including head-to-head wins over #2 St. Thomas and #9 Wartburg, a head-to-head dual meet win over Wartburg, and a first place finish this weekend in convincing fashion over St. Thomas.
