Men’s Basketball Upended by St. Thomas 76-58

The Gustavus men’s basketball team dropped to 8-5 in MIAC play with a 76-58 loss at St. Thomas on Monday night. Senior wing Adam TeBrake led the Gusties in scoring with 19 points.

The Gustavus men’s basketball team dropped to 8-5 in MIAC play with a 76-58 loss at St. Thomas on Monday night. The Gusties got down 10-2 at the start and could not take the lead away from the Tommies the rest of the night. St. Thomas led by 14 at the half (45-31) and extended its lead to as many as 21 points in the second half (74-53) before winning by 18 (76-58). The Gusties have now lost more league games this season than they have in the past two years combined (4).

The Tommies, who outrebounded the Gusties 35-21, shot 59% from the field in the first half (19-of-32) and 53% on the game (31-of-59) and posted a 24-9 advantage in 3-point scoring. Gustavus shot 45.6 percent from the field (22-48) and managed only seven offensive rebounds compared to 14 for St. Thomas.

Gustavus placed three players in double figures including Adam TeBrake with 19, Trevor Wittwer with 15 and Jay Stien with 10. Stien also recorded nine rebounds. St. Thomas countered with four players in double digits including Bryan Schnettler with 17, Sean Sweeney and Isaac Rosefelt with 16 each, and Joey Shimek with 10.

The Gusties will head home to host second place Carleton on Wednesday at 7:30 pm on Gus Young Court.
