Women’s Cross Country Finishes Third, Fourth; Harren Takes 6K Title Posted on October 9th, 2005 by

The Gustavus women’s cross country team picked up a pair of top four team finishes Saturday at the Dan Huston Invite in Waverly, Iowa. The meet featured both a 4-kilometer and a 6-kilometer race in order to give team’s variety and allow more runners to figure into the scoring. The format is used in the United States and World Cross Country Championships.

The Gusties finished third in the 6-kilometer race with 77 points. St. Olaf captured the team title, edging out crosstown rival Carleton, 45-50. Junior Hailey Harren (Cold Spring, Minn.) picked up the individual title in a time of 22 minutes, 10 seconds. Senior Kourtney Joyce (Wadena, Minn.) finished third in a time of 22:56.

In the 4-kilometer race, Gustavus finished fourth with 89 points. UW-Parkside edged Wartburg for the team title, 45-46. Luther, with 83 points, finished just ahead of the Gusties in third place. Senior Ashley Cronin (Kandiyohi, Minn.) was the top finisher for the Gusties, finishing fifth after getting nosed out at the finish line by UW-Parkside’s Naomi Bong. Cronin and Bong each finished in 15:05. Melissa Kittock (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) traversed the course in 15:29 to finish 13th overall.

The Gusties travel to LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Saturday to participate in the UW-La Crosse Invitational.
