Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at NWU Fall Preview Posted on September 20th, 2005 by

The Gustavus men’s golf team compiled a team score of 304-310–614 to finish in seventh place at the 14-team Nebraska Wesleyan Fall Preview Invitational. Guilford College, the defending national champion, shot a second-round 293 to win the tournament by seven strokes over Nebraska Wesleyan University. NWU, who had held the first-day lead shot 306 to finish with a 36-hole total of 598. The final 18 holes of the event were played at Firethorn Golf Club, site of the 2006 NCAA Division III National Championships.

Colin Clark of Guilford captured medalist honors with a two-day total of 143. He carded a 72 on Tuesday to go with his first-round score of 71 to win the invitational by a stroke over NWU’s Travis Davis. Sophomore Mark Stuckey (St. Peter, Minn.) led the Gusties individually, ending up in a tie three-way tie for third. Stuckey shot a 36-hole total of 74-72–143. Senior Clayton Johnson (Anoka, Minn.), who led Gustavus after day one, paired his first-round 72 with a second-round 81 and finished tied for 19th place with a 36-hole total of 72-81–153.

Gustavus will return to action on Sunday, September 25 as they travel to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to participate in the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Tournament hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Play both Sunday and Monday will take place at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club.
