The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team picked up their first victory of the season Saturday, September 3 with a four-game win over Willamette University (30-26, 19-30, 30-18, 30-22) at the Boxer Kickoff Invitational in Forest Grove, Oregon. Gustavus fell to host Pacific University (19-30, 21-20, 15-30) and Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio) (30-20, 22-30, 22-30, 24-30) to open the tournament on Friday and then dropped their final game of the tournament with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Linfield College (30-23, 28-30, 30-27, 30-20) on Saturday evening.

Sophomore Andrea Kron led the Gusties offensively throughout the tournament, registering 67 kills in four matches. Kron’s high came in the win over Willamette with 21, but she was not far off that mark in two other matches. Against Linfield and Baldwin-Wallace, Kron had 19 and 18 kills, respectively. Rachelle Jakobs facilitated much of the offense during the tournament, picking up 135 assists.

The Gusties open the home schedule Friday, September 9 at 4 pm as they host Viterbo University in an opening game of the GAC Classic at Gus Young Court.
