The Gustavus women’s track and field team hosted the Drake Alternative on Saturday, April 30 in St. Peter. No team scores were kept. The meet featured Division I, II and III student-athletes from nine different schools. The Gusties placed first in five running events, three relays and three field events.
Senior Kristi Schneider (Hastings, Minn.) and first-year Shanna Dawson (Fairmont, Minn.) set a new school record in the pole vault. Schneider and Dawson cleared a height of 11-3.75, beating the old record by three-quarters of an inch. Schneider placed first in the event, while Dawson placed second due to misses.
Dawson won the long jump and triple jump. The first-year jumped a distance of 16-10 in the long jump and recorded a distance of 36-00.25 in the triple jump. First-year Sari Lindeman (Cannon Falls, Minn.) placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 35-11.25.
Gustavus’ distance runners had an impressive meet winning three races. In the 10,000-meter run, senior Nicole Petersen (Marshall, Minn.) placed first with a time of 37.03.46 and sophomore Hailey Harren (Cold Spring, Minn.) placed second with a time of 37:58.68.
Gustavus claimed the top three spots in the 1,500-meter run. Junior Molle Lager (Robbinsdale, Minn.) placed first (4:58.65), sophomore Val Berquam (Kenyon, Minn.) placed second (5:07.24) and first-year Laura Edlund (Forest Lake, Minn.) placed third (5:11.19).
Sophomore Heidi Bulfer (Fairmont, Minn.) and senior Ashley Farbo (Buffalo, Minn.) claimed the top two spots in the 800-meter run. Bulfer placed first with a time of 2:24.94, while Farbo placed second with a time of 2:27.47.
Other top performers included sophomore Krista Cruse (Hastings, Minn.), sophomore Carlie Hanson (Buffalo, Minn.) and senior Ali Cordie (Sartell, Minn.). Cruse won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.17. Hanson placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.73 and Cordie placed second with a time of 1:07.52.
The Gusties also placed first in the the 4×100-meter relay, 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay.
