The Gustavus men’s and women’s tennis teams won MIAC Championships on Saturday afternoon. The men defeated Carleton 9-0 in St. Peter, while the women defeated Carleton 8-1 in St. Paul.
The men, who claimed their 17th consecutive league title, defeated St. John’s 7-2 in the semifinals, and then knocked off Carleton 9-0 in the final. Coach Steve Wilkinson’s squad improves to 26-4 on the season.
The women, who claimed their 14th consecutive MIAC title, defeated St. Catherine 9-0 in the semifinals, and then beat Carleton 8-1 in the final. Coach Jon Carlson’s squad improves to 29-2.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will now advance to the NCAA Championships which will take place next weekend. The NCAA will announce the tournament draw on Sunday evening, May 1. It is very likely that both team’s will host regional tournaments next weekend.
