Men’s Golf in Third Place After First Day at Gustie Spring Classic Posted on April 18th, 2005 by

The Gustavus men’s golf team is currently in third place after the first round of play at the Gustie Spring Classic on Monday, April 18 at the LeSueur Country Club. The Gusties compiled a 36-hole total of 299-295–594, which is 11 strokes behind the current leader Saint John’s University (285-298–583). The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is in third place with a score of 297-292–589.

Luther College’s Mike Eisele is the leader after the first round of play with a score of 73-67–140. Derek Pirkl from UW-Eau Claire is in second place, just two strokes behind the leader with score of 72-70–142. Josh Sherlin and Kyle Fredrickson from Saint John’s are tied for third place with score of 143.

The top three golfers for Gustavus are Clayton Johnson, Brady Hoffman and Eric Tone. Johnson is currently tied for tenth place with a score of 75-72–147 to lead the Gusties. Hoffman and Tone are tied for twelfth place with a score of 148.

The tournament will conclude with 18-holes played at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. The competition will start at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
