Women’s Track & Field Competes at the Wartburg Open Posted on March 28th, 2004 by

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s track & field team traveled to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the third annual Wartburg Open on Saturday, March 27. Gustavus won two individual races, one relay race and two field events. No team scores were kept at the meet.

Blythe Bittman turned in an impressive performance in the first outdoor meet of the season. Bittman won the 100 and 200-meter races with times of 12.62 and 26.33, respectively. She also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 16′ 5.25″.

Jackie Luehmann, Shannon Martin and Kristi Schnieder won the field events for Gustavus. Luehmann won the shot put and placed fourth in the discus throw and hammer throw. Martin and Schneider tied for first in the pole vault, both jumping a NCAA provisional height of 11′ 1″.

Ashley Cronen, Kim Swanson, Maggie Stolp, and Blythe Bittman won the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.45. The 4×800-meter relay team placed fourth in their race with a time of 10:18.67.

The Gusties will be back in action in two weeks. Gustavus will host the Lee Krough Inviational on Friday, April 9th.
