Lisa Brown Wins National Title in Javelin, Qualifies For U.S. Olympic Trials
Gustavus junior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) won the javelin title at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with a school and conference record effort of 174 feet, 5 inches on Saturday afternoon. Brown, who won the national javelin title in 2006 and finished second in 2007, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials with her winning effort. She is the first Gustavus student-athlete to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field.
Kaelene Lundstrum Finishes Second in Heptathlon at NCAA Track Championships, Shatters School Record
Gustavus sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum (Bird Island, Minn.) finished second in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Championships taking place at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Lundstrum, who led through five of the seven events, was edged by Amy Reed of Messiah College with 5,111 points. Lundstrum's total of 4,762 points shattered her own Gustavus mark of 4,430 points, while also breaking the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mark of 4,668 points.
Lundstrum In First Place In Heptathlon After First Day, Dawson Finishes 13th in Pole Vault
Sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum turned in a strong first day and sits in first place in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships taking place at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Lundstrum won the high jump (5-6) and shot put (41-1) and sits in first place with 3,015 points. She is 75 points ahead of Lindsay Lange of Hope College (2,940). Senior Shanna Dawson finished 13th in the pole vault at a height of 11-4 1/2.
Kaelene Lundstrum, Lisa Brown, Shanna Dawson Selected To Participate in NCAA Track and Field Championships
Three members of the Gustavus women's track and field team have been selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held May 22-24 at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. That group includes junior Lisa Brown, sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum, and senior Shanna Dawson. Brown will be making her third consecutive appearance at the national outdoor meet, while Lundstrum and Dawson will be making their first appearance.
Women’s Track and Field Posts Strong Second Place Finish At MIAC Outdoor Championships
The Gustavus women's track and field team finished second behind champion St. Thomas as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships which were hosted by Hamline University in St. Paul. Three Gusties claimed individual championships and that group included Lisa Brown (javelin), Shanna Dawson (pole vault), and Kaelene Lundstrum (high jump).
MIAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Preview
The Gustavus women's track and field team will take participate in the MIAC Outdoor Championships this Friday and Saturday at Hamline University. The Gusties finished second at the outdoor meet a year ago and placed second at the indoor championships in March. Coach Tom Thorkelson's squad will attempt to use its talent and depth to sneak past St. Thomas into the top spot this year. The meet begins at 3:00 pm on Friday and then on Saturday, events begin at 4:00 pm.
Laura Edlund Named MIAC Track Athlete of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior Laura Edlund (Forest Lake, Minn.) has been named the MIAC Track Athlete of the Week by the conference track and field coaches. Edlund placed first in the 5000M on Sunday at the Hamline University Meet of the UnSaintly with a time of 18:06.29. This time currently leads the MIAC honor roll.
Women’s Track and Field Respond To Warm Weather With Strong Performances at Hamline
The Gustavus women's track and field team finally got a chance to perform in warm weather on Sunday at the Meet of the Unsaintly at Hamline in St. Paul. The team turned in eight top four performances during the day including four first place finishes. Senior pole vaulter Shanna Dawson led the way as she finished first in the pole vault at a school record height of 12 feet, 2 1/2 inches.
Kaelene Lundstrum In First Place After First Day of MIAC Pentathlon
Gustavus sophomore Kaelene Lundstrum scored 2,791 points and is in first place after the first day of the MIAC Heptathlon which is being held at Carleton College in Northfield.
Gustie Rectangular Track and Field Meet Canceled
The Gustie Rectangular track and field meet scheduled for Friday, May 2 at 5:00 pm has been canceled due to poor weather conditions. The meet will not be rescheduled.
