Women’s Basketball Opens Season With 78-70 Win Over Wartburg
Sophomore guard Jess Vadnais scored a game-high 26 points as the Gustavus women's basketball team picked up a 78-70 season-opening win over Wartburg College Tuesday night in Waverly, Iowa. Junior Bri Monahan added 15 points despite sitting out most of the second half with foul trouble. The Gusties improve to 1-0, while the Knights fall to 2-1. Coach Mickey Haller's squad continues play this weekend at the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Classic, facing Luther at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 25.
Women’s Cross Country Finishes Third, Fourth; Harren Takes 6K Title
The Gustavus women's cross country team picked up a pair of top four team finishes Saturday at the Dan Huston Invite in Waverly, Iowa. The meet featured both a 4-kilometer and a 6-kilometer race in order to give team's variety and allow more runners to figure into the scoring. The Gusties finished third in the 6-kilometer race, with junior Hailey Harren picking up the individual title. Gustavus picked up a fourth place team finish in the 4-kilometer race, led by Ashley Cronin's fourth place finish.
Men’s Cross Country Claims Pair of Seventh Place Finishes
The Gustavus men's cross country team picked up a pair of seventh place team finishes Saturday at the Dan Huston Invite in Waverly, Iowa. The meet featured both a 4-kilometer and an 8-kilometer race in order to give team's variety and allow more runners to figure into the scoring. The Gusties top finisher in the 8-kilometer race was junior Alex Zupan. Zupan finished tenth in a time of 26:23. Freshman Ryan Brownell was the top finisher in the 4-kilometer race with a 31st place time of 13:15.
Men’s Soccer Falls to #8 Wartburg in Overtime Contest
The Gustavus Adolphus men's soccer squad picked up their first loss of the season, falling to Wartburg College, 2-1, in overtime. Wartburg midfielder Jon Hinke pushed through the Gustie defense just 2:13 into the extra session to give the eighth-rated Knights the victory. Wartburg improves to 2-1 on the season while sixth-rated Gustavus falls to 0-1-1. Gustavus will venture to Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, September 10 to face Nebraska Wesleyan University.
