Women’s Basketball Falls 70-58 To Wartburg In Season Opener
The Gustavus women’s basketball team suffered a 70-58 loss to Wartburg College in the 2010 season opener on Monday night in Waverly, Iowa. The Gusties are now 0-1 on the season and will face UW-River Falls in the their first home contest on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in St. Peter.
Women’s Golf In Second Place Following Day One At Wartburg Invitational
The Gustavus women's golf team finished day one of competition in second place with a team score of 343 (+59) at the Wartburg Fall Invitational held at Centennial Oaks Country Club in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday. UW- Eau Claire leads with a team score of 329 (+45), while Wartburg College is in third place with a team score of 347 (+63). The 19-team competition will wrap up on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Centennial Oaks.
Men’s Tennis Splits Squad To Defeat Kalamazoo And Wartburg
The tenth-ranked Gustavus men's tennis team posted a pair of wins over 21st-ranked Kalamazoo College 8-1 and Wartburg College 6-3 with split squads. The Gusties, who had not played a match in 10 days, faced Kalamazoo in Milwaukee, Wis. and Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa. Both wins improved Gustavus' overall record to 21-8 for the program's 15th consecutive 20-win season.
Baseball Team Sweeps Doubleheader Against Wartburg
The Gustavus baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Wartburg College on Sunday night at the Metrodome. Cody Sukalski and Jake Kruegel combined to pitch a shutout for a 3-0 win in game one, while a nine-run sixth inning gave the Gusties a 13-6 win for the sweep. Gustavus, which is now 3-1 overall, will travel to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 15 with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
Women’s Tennis Remains Perfect In MIAC With Wins Over St. Catherine and Saint Benedict
The Gustavus women's tennis team remained perfect in MIAC play with a pair of 9-0 wins over the College of St. Catherine on Saturday in St. Paul and the College of Saint Benedict on Sunday in St. Joseph. The Gusties also picked up a non-conference 6-3 win over Wartburg College in St. Peter on Saturday. Gustavus, which improved to 16-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play, will face three MIAC opponents this week, including league-unbeaten St. Thomas.
Baseball Doubleheader at Wartburg Postponed and Moved to May 6
Due to heavy rains that passed through the Waverly, Iowa, area late last night and early this morning, Tuesday's non-conference baseball doubleheader between Gustavus Adolphus and Wartburg has been postponed to Sunday, May 6, with a 1 p.m. start at Hertel Field in Waverly.
Baseball Takes Pair From Wartburg 8-5, 10-2
The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team pushed its winning streak to five games Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of non-conference foe Wartburg. Justin Boelter pitched effectively in game one, allowing five runs on six hits to get the 8-5 win despite giving up a pair of home runs to Wartburg catcher Brian Greiner. The Gusties used a seven-run fifth inning to turn what had been a scoreless pitcher's dual into a runaway 10-2 victory.
Women’s Track and Field Fourth at Wartburg Select Meet; Joyce Meets NCAA Provisional Mark
In its first outdoor competition on American soil, the Gustavus women's track and field team captured fourth place at the Wartburg Select Meet Saturday in Waverly, Iowa. Host Wartburg took home the team title by 9.5 points over UW-La Crosse, 180-170.5. Central College finished third with 93.5 points followed by Gustavus with 66.5 points. Kourtney Joyce recorded the best finish for the Gusties with a runner-up finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:59.94.
Men’s Track and Field Fifth at Wartburg Select; Miest and Klaers Reach Provisional Marks
The Gustavus men's track and field team accumulated 66.5 points Saturday to post a fifth-place finish at the Wartburg Select Meet in Waverly, Iowa. The host Knights took the team title with 193 points, followed by Monmouth (150), Central (105), UW-Platteville (80.5) and Gustavus. Tanner Miest (110-meter hurdles) and Andy Klaers (discus) posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks with winning efforts.
