Women’s Hockey Uses High Scoring First Period To Defeat St. Olaf 6-1

Three first-period goals helped Gustavus cruise to a 6-1 conference win over St. Olaf Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. Molly Doyle (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) scored the first goal of the game at 9:42, while Jenny Pusch (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) scored short-handed and power play goals during the period. Gustavus raised its record to 7-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the MIAC, as St. Olaf fell to 2-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in league play.

Men’s Hockey Scores Twice In Third Period, Claims 4-2 Win Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus men's hockey scored twice in a three-minute span midway through the third period allowing the Gusties to claim a 4-2 win over St. Olaf at home on Friday evening. Josh Pauer was credited with the game-winner at the 9:37 mark and Niko Suoraniemi gave the Gusties some breathing room with a goal at the 12:04 mark. Matt Lopes picked up the win in the nets. Gustavus is now 5-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the MIAC.

Women’s Swimming Tops St. Olaf 152-148, But Men Fall To Oles 142.5-157.5

The Gustavus women's swimming team won its first home dual meet of the season by defeating St. Olaf 152-148, while the Gustavus men's swimming team dropped its second dual meet of the season losing 142.5-157.5 to the Oles. The meet was held at the Lund Natatorium on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus.

Men’s Soccer Wins Second Straight MIAC Tournament; Advances to NCAA Tournament

Bret Vander Streek (So., Pella, Iowa) broke a scoreless tie early in the second half to help the Gustavus men's soccer team win its second straight MIAC Tournament by defeating St. Olaf 2-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Gustavus has won four of the five MIAC Post-Season Tournaments and every final the team has played in. With the victory, the Gusties earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, making its fourth consecutive appearance.

Football Team Sees Winning Streak Come to Screeching Halt with 59-19 Loss to St. Olaf

The Gustavus football team could not keep up with the high-powered St. Olaf offense as the Oles raced past the Gusties by the score of 59-19 in Northfield on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties trailed 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, however the Oles erupted for 21 points in the second quarter and led 35-12 at halftime. Gustavus which was averaging 537 yards of offense was held to 296 yards on the day. Wide receiver John Retka led the offense with six catches for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Blocking Gets the Job Done as Gustavus Volleyball Defeats St. Olaf 3-1

Dominant net play propelled the Gustavus volleyball team past St. Olaf 3-1 Wednesday night by the scores of 30-17, 25-30, 30-27, and 30-26. The Gustie defense proved to be the deciding factor as Coach Eckheart's team recorded 18 total blocks compared to only 10 for the Oles. Three players finished the match with double-digit kills including Jen Thelemann with 16, Meghan Gehring with 11, and Andrea Kron with 10. Gustavus improves to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC,

Gustavus Women Runners Finish Seventh at St. Olaf Invitational

The Golden Gustie women's cross country team turned in a seventh-place finish with 198 points at the 25 team St. Olaf Invitational Saturday morning. First-place team UW-Eau Claire had three of the top 11 finishers to win with 97 points. Laura Edlund (Forest Lake, Minn.) again paced Gustavus with a 16th-place finish in 23:22.

Men’s Cross Country Finishes 14th at St. Olaf Invitational

The Golden Gustie men's cross country team turned in a 14th-place finish with 359 points at the 27 team St. Olaf Invitational Saturday morning. UW-La Crosse won the team competition with 83 points and all five runners finishing in the top 25. Dan Foley (Minneapolis, Minn.) was the top Gustavus finisher in 35th-place in 26:40.

Malmquist Scores First Career Goal To Help Men’s Soccer Defeat St. Olaf 1-0

The Gustavus men's soccer team opened MIAC play Wednesday with a 1-0 win over St. Olaf. First-year forward Max Malmquist (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) scored the game-winning goal on a pass from junior Flynn Stewart-Franzen (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels) midway through the second half. Senior goalkeeper Trevor Brown (Madison, Wisc./Memorial) recorded his third shutout of the season.

The Gustavus women's soccer team was shut out for the first time this season losing to St. Olaf 1-0 in Northfield on Wednesday afternoon. The Gusties are now 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
