Women’s Soccer Hosts Home Opener, Charity Game, Saturday Against Concordia

The Gustavus women’s soccer team is set to host its home opener 3:30 p.m. Saturday against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Concordia. The Gusties enter the contest 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC after defeating Carleton 2-0 Tuesday, while the Cobbers are 2-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the league after losing 1-0 against Saint Benedict on Tuesday.

Women’s Soccer Tops Lawrence In Convincing Fashion, 6-0

A convincing offensive performance by the Gustavus women’s soccer team resulted in a 6-0 shutout Friday night at Lawrence University. Six different Gusties scored goals, while all 26 players saw time on the pitch, outshooting the Vikings 34-2. Gustavus improves to 2-1 overall, while Lawrence drops to 1-3.

Women’s Soccer On The Road For Two More Non-League Matches

The Gustavus women’s soccer team is set for two more non-conference matches on the road this weekend before entering conference play next week. The Gusties take on Lawrence University at 7 p.m. Friday before traveling to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 3 p.m. Sunday. The Gusties enter the weekend 1-1, Lawrence is 1-2, and UW-La Crosse is 1-0-1.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2015 Women’s Soccer Awards on Thursday and Gustavus took home two of the top four honors. Laura Burnett-Kurie was named Coach-of-the-Year and goalkeeper Ashley Becker (Fy., Farmington, Minn.) was named Rookie-of-the-Year. Joining Becker on the All-MIAC Team are Maddison Ackliss (Jr., Fairbanks, Alaska), Sophie Leininger (So., Plymouth, Minn.) and Josie Mazzone (So., Rapid City, S.D.)
