Softball Advances To Second Round Of NCAA Regional With 11-4 Win Over Central

The Gustavus softball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Regional with a convincing 11-4 win over Central in Indianola, Iowa on Thursday evening. Jenna Johnson hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Emily Wendorff hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to spark the Gustie hit parade. Betsie Collins pitched three and two-thirds innings and picked up the win. Gustavus, the #7 seed, will now play Luther, the #6 seed on Friday at 6 pm.

Softball Team Opens NCAA Tournament Play Against Central

The Gustavus softball team opens NCAA Tournament play on Thursday evening against Central College of Pella, Iowa at 6 pm. The Gusties, the MIAC regular season champions, are the #7 seed, while the Dutch, the IIAC regular season champions, are the #2 seed. The eight-team regional, which will take place Thursday through Sunday, is being played at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.

Softball Team Receives NCAA Tournament Berth

The Gustavus softball team, which won the MIAC Regular Season Championship with a 21-1 record and finished second at the MIAC Tournament, has received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Gusties, who are the #7 seed in the Indianola Regional, will face #2 seed Central on Thursday at a time yet to be determined.

Three Gustavus Softball Players Named to MIAC All-Tournament Team

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the 2009 MIAC All-Tournament team and three Gustavus players have been selected for the prestigious honor. They are senior shortstop Rachael Click, senior centerfielder Emily Klein, and sophomore pitcher Erin Truebenbach. The Gusties, who are 35-7, finished second in the tournament compiling a record of 2-2 and will now play in the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Indianola, Iowa.

Softball Team Falls To St. Thomas 4-3 In MIAC Tournament Championship Game

The Gustavus softball team was unable to get past St. Thomas in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament falling to the Tommies twice in the two-day tournament and finishing second after a 4-3 loss in the Tournament Championship game on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties defeated Hamline 5-4 in eight innings on Saturday morning to advance to the finale against St. Thomas. Gustavus, which is now will now 35-7 overall, must wait until Monday morning to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Softball Team Set To Take Part in MIAC Tournament

The Gustavus softball team is the #1 seed in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament, which will be played Friday and Saturday in Winona, Minn. Saint Mary's University will serve as the host. You can listen to the Gustavus games on KNUJ Radio (860 AM), however the KNUJ broadcast will not be available on the internet. Softball Defeats Bethel, Then Falls To St. Thomas at MIAC Tournament, Will Face Hamline Next

The Gustavus softball team opened the MIAC Tournament with a 5-1 win over Bethel, but then lost to St. Thomas 4-1 in its second game of the day. The Gusties will now play Hamline in an elimination game on Saturday morning at 11 am. Erin Truebenbach was the winning pitcher in game one, Kirsten Prunty's two-run home run sparked the Gusties against the Royals. Rachael Click hit a home run for Gustavus' lone against St. Thomas.

Rachael Click Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Softball Player of the Week

Gustavus shortstop Rachael Click has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player of the Week for the week ending April 26, the association announced Wednesday. The senior standout from Rochester, Minn. was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Monday.

Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader With St. Scholastica

The Gustavus softball team wrapped up regular season play with a disappointing split with St. Scholastica in a doubleheader that was played at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on the campus on of the University of Minnesota on Monday afternoon. The Gusties lost game one 4-3 and then bounced back to win game two 9-0. With the win in the second game, Gustavus picked up its 33rd win of the season which sets a new school record for wins in a season.

Softball Team Sweeps St. Kates, Claims MIAC Title Outright

The Gustavus softball team reached one of its primary goals for the season by winning the 2009 MIAC Title with two wins over the College of St. Catherine by the scores of 14-3, and 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties completed regular season league play with a 21-1 record and earned the #1 seed in the MIAC Tournament, which will be played next Friday and Saturday in Winona, Minn.
