Men’s Basketball Tops Saint Mary’s 77-70; Doble Scores 27 Points

Junior Andrew Doble (Sarasota, Fla.) scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team to a 77-70 victory over Saint Mary's University Saturday afternoon in Winona. The Gusties, who trailed 39-36 at halftime, improve to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the MIAC and will face Concordia College Monday night in Moorhead.

Women’s Hockey Posts 5-1 Win Over Saint Mary’s

Kelly Crandall scored a pair of goals and an assist Saturday to complete a six-point weekend and lead the Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Saint Mary's in Winona. Women’s Soccer Falls to Saint Mary’s 2-1 in Overtime

The Gustavus Adolphus women's soccer team fell to 2-5-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the MIAC on Wednesday with a 2-1 overtime loss to Saint Mary's University in Winona. SMU's Lisa Tlougan put the game-winner past Gustavus' Ashley Ohlson with 3:37 to play in the first extra session. Ashley Voigtlander scored the lone Gustavus goal in the 83rd minute off an assist by Rachel Iblings. Gustavus will host St. Olaf on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Softball Team Defeats St. Mary’s, Falls To St. Thomas at MIAC Tourney

The Gustavus softball team opened up MIAC Tournament play with a 2-1, eight-inning win over St. Mary's to advance in the winner's bracket, but then lost to St. Thomas 6-2 to fall into the loser's bracket on Friday afternoon. The Gusties will play St. Mary's again in an elimination game on Saturday morning at 11 am.

Madson Homers Twice as Baseball Sweeps Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team kept itself in the thick of things for a spot in the MIAC Playoffs Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Saint Mary's, 4-1 and 17-11. Dave Wold pitched a complete game, six-hitter to get the win in game one, while Aaron Madson hit two home runs and a double and knocked in four runs during game two.

The Gusties improve to 11-3-1 overall, 6-0-0 in the MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 2-13-1 overall, 1-7-0 in the league. The teams were called for 28 penalties. Gustavus will face St. Olaf next weekend in a home-and-home series. The teams will play in Northfield on Friday and St. Peter on Saturday.

Leading Saint Mary's 34-31 at halftime, the Gustavus women's basketball team opened the second half of Wednesday's game on a 17-0 run en route to a 70-58 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Cardinals in Winona. Jess Vadnais led all players with 23 points, including 21 in the second half. Gustavus improves its record to 6-3 overall, 4-2 in the MIAC. The Gusties will host Bethel on Saturday, January 7.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Saint Mary’s; Wins at St. Kate’s

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful weekend Saturday with a 135-22 dual win at Saint Mary's and a first place finish in a triangular at St. Kate's. Between the two events, four Gusties posted three wins—Scott Hagemeyer and Peter Stauduhar at Saint Mary's and Brian Amundson and Ben Hanson at St. Kate's. Gustavus returns to the pool with the University of Minnesota Invite November 18-19.
