Gustavus Adolphus senior pitcher Erin Truebenbach (Mapleton, Minn.) has been named MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 with two complete-game performances against MIAC opponents St. Olaf and Carleton last week.
Alan Woitas Named MIAC Baseball Player Of The Week
Gustavus Adolphus senior shortstop/pitcher Alan Woitas (Sleepy Eye, Minn.) has been named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week for his efforts last week as the Gusties went 4-2 in non-conference play against opponents Loras College (L 12-4, L 4-3), Thomas College (W 12-1, W 4-1), and Marian University (W 9-7, W 9-2). Woitas hit .455 (10-22), tallying six RBIs, eight runs, two doubles, and a home run.
Josh Swartout Named MIAC Men’s Hockey Co-Athlete Of The Week
Gustavus junior goaltender Josh Swartout (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) has been named MIAC Co-Athlete of the Week for his efforts against Concordia this past weekend. He registered 45 saves and allowed one goal in two games to help the Gusties claim a sweep of Concordia by the scores of 5-1 and 2-0 last weekend. Swartout made 26 saves and allowed one goal in Friday night's 5-1 win in St. Peter and then on Saturday, Swartout made 19 saves and recorded his second shutout of the season as Gustavus claimed a 2-0 victory.
David Martinson Named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player Of The Week
Gustavus senior forward David Martinson (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) was named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week for his efforts against Saint John’s this past weekend. Martinson registered a total of four goals and one assist, as the Gusties gained three points from the Johnnies with a 3-3 tie Friday night and a 6-4 win Sunday morning.
MIAC Names Emily Klatt Women’s Hockey Player Of The Week
Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore goaltender Emily Klatt (Woodbury, Minn.) has been named MIAC Women's Hockey Player of the Week. Klatt helped the Gusties go 2-0 last week with a 2-1 upset victory over #5 UW-River Falls on Tuesday night, and a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon. Klatt gave up one goal and made 30 saves while playing a total of 90 minutes on the week.
David Martinson Named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College junior forward David Martinson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending January 19, 2009. Martinson tallied four goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal in both games, to lead the Gusties to a 5-3 and 3-2 sweep of St. Thomas last weekend.
Justice Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Co-Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College first-year goaltender Danielle Justice (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Co-Player of the Week for the week ending January 5, 2008. Justice recorded 17 saves and did not allow a goal to help the Gusties defeat #1 ranked Amherst 3-0 on Friday in St. Peter, Minn.
Kali Griggs Named MIAC Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore Kali Griggs (Burnsville, Minn./Visitation) has been named the MIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week by the league coaches. Griggs finished first with a 36-hole total of 76-73--149 at the Minnesota Women's Collegiate Golf Association Invitational (MWCGA) at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minnesota. Gustavus, ranked third in the nation, topped second place St. Thomas by 41 strokes and scored an 18-hole total of 297 on Sunday which set a new school record.
Collins, Click Honored as MIAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced on Monday that Betsie Collins has been named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week, while Rachael Click has been named the MIAC Player of the Week for softball. Collins and Click combined to help Gustavus post a record of 9-1 during the week and remain in the hunt for a MIAC Post-Season berth. Click was named co-player of the week along with Katy Gannon of Saint Mary's.
