Alan Woitas MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus senior shortstop/pitcher Alan Woitas (Sleepy Eye, Minn.) has been named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week for his efforts last week as the Gusties went 4-2 in non-conference play against opponents Loras College (L 12-4, L 4-3), Thomas College (W 12-1, W 4-1), and Marian University (W 9-7, W 9-2).  Woitas hit .455 (10-22), tallying six RBIs, eight runs, two doubles, and a home run.

Woitas struck out just twice in his 22 at bats last week, and is currently on a nine game hitting streak.  In the second game of the doubleheader with Loras College on Monday, he went 1-for-3 with a big fifth inning home run that gave the Gusties a 3-2 lead.  In the doubleheader against Marian on Sunday, Woitas went 5-for-8 with three RBIs and five runs. He also pitched all seven innings in the 12-1 win over Thomas College, giving up one earned run and striking out two.

The Gustavus baseball team will wrap up it’s Spring Training trip in Pheonix with games against Elmhurst College Tuesday at 10:30am, and Oberlin College on Wednesday at 12:00pm.
