Josh Swartout named MIAC Men's Hockey Co-Athlete of the Week

Gustavus junior goaltender Josh Swartout (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) has been named MIAC Co-Athlete of the Week for his efforts against Concordia this past weekend.  He registered 45 saves and allowed one goal in two games to help the Gusties claim a sweep of Concordia by the scores of 5-1 and 2-0 last weekend. Swartout made 26 saves and allowed one goal in Friday night’s 5-1 win in St. Peter and then on Saturday, Swartout made 19 saves and recorded his second shutout of the season as Gustavus claimed a 2-0 victory. Swartout stopped 45 of the 46 shots that he faced during the weekend.  Hamline’s Kyle Kurr shares Player of the Week honors with Swartout.

It is the second time this season that Swartout has been named Athlete of the Week, as he received the award in early December for his efforts against St. Thomas.  Swartout has an overall record of 14-1-2 (9-1-2 MIAC) and leads the MIAC with a goals against average of 2.21.  He carries a save percentage of .903 into an important weekend series with second place Hamline (19 points).  The Gusties lead the MIAC with record of 9-1-2 (20 points) and are rated #8 in the USCHO.com Division III poll.

The Gusties will face the Pipers at 7:05 pm on Friday night in St. Peter, Minn., and 7:15 on Saturday night in St. Paul.
