Seven Men’s Tennis Players Earn 2012 All-MIAC Honors, Valentini Named Coach Of The Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2012 Men’s Tennis Awards on Tuesday and three Gustavus players garnered All-Conference in both singles and doubles. Junior Amrik Donkena (Rochester, Minn.) and sophomores Juan Luis Chu (Lima, Peru) and Mya Smith-Dennis (Savage, Minn.) were selected by a vote of the league’s coaches as representatives on the 2012 All-MIAC singles and doubles teams.

Amrik Donkena battled back against UW-Eau Claire to claim the win at No. 1 singles. 

Men’s Tennis Claims Victories Over UW-Eau Claire and Augustana

The Gustavus men’s tennis team improved its win streak to five with a pair of victories over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 9-0, and Augustana College (S.D.), 8-1, Saturday in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties move to 10-4 overall on the season, while UW-Eau Claire falls to 10-3 and Augustana drops to 3-2.

Men’s Tennis Cruises To Three MIAC Victories

The Gustavus men's tennis team proved its value in the MIAC Saturday with three convincing victories over Concordia (9-0), Bethel (8-1) and Macalester (9-0) in St. Peter, Minn. The three wins improve the Gusties to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the MIAC. Gustavus won 17-of-18 singles competitions in straight sets and all nine doubles matches on the day.

Patrick Clark lost in the No. 2 singles, but bounced back with a victory in the No. 1 doubles. 

Men’s Tennis Caps Weekend With 8-1 Victory At Saint John’s

After starting its 2012 campaign with consecutive losses in Hawaii, the Gustavus men’s tennis team bounced back with consecutive MIAC victories on Saturday. In the morning, the Gusties defeated Hamline 8-1 in St. Paul and then journeyed to Collegeville, Minn. for another conference battle with Saint John’s, which Gustavus won 8-1 as well. The Gustie men improve to 2-0 in the conference and 2-2 overall.
