The Gustavus women’s basketball team continued its offensive prowess Saturday at Hamline, winning in convincing fashion 89-47 to clinch a spot in the MIAC playoffs. The Gusties shot 55 percent from beyond the three-point line and controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Pipers 44-20 to improve to 17-4 overall and 11-3 in the MIAC.

After a sluggish start to Wednesday’s game, the Gustavus women’s basketball turned it on midway through the second quarter, cruising to a 92-49 win over Carleton in its highest scoring output of the season. The Gusties made a season-high 10 three-pointers, shooting 47.6 percent from beyond the arc, thanks in large part to Mikayla Miller’s (Sr., Goodhue, Minn.) 6-of-8 shooting from three as she poured in a season-high 30 points.

The No. 25-ranked Gustavus women’s basketball team outscored St. Catherine in all four quarters Saturday, cruising to a 67-40 victory at Gus Young Court. The Gusties also forced 29 turnovers and limited the Wildcats to 31.7 percent shooting to improve to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the MIAC.

The loss drops the No. 20-ranked Gusties to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC, while the Royals improve to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the league.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon, defeating Wisconsin-Superior 67-46 in the consolation game of the Wartburg Holiday Tournament. The victory marks the 100th in Head Coach Laurie Kelly’s sixth season at Gustavus as the Gusties improve to 9-2 overall. Kelly becomes the second fastest Gustavus head coach to collect 100 wins, reaching the mark after 144 games. Mickey Haller (2000-12) reached 100 wins after 142 games.
